The Company first came on the scene back in 1948, when Ron Cook started selling EX W/D tools in a converted ambulance around the East Anglia region. During this period of time a strong working relationship developed between Draper Tools and Cooks of Bedford, which today we still enjoy and truly value. Ron would Travel down to London to fill the ambulance with tools and then disappear into the untamed regions of East Anglia and sell the contents.
The next major development was to purchase suitable premises in Bedford to store and sell tools, which was located in Caudwell Street. The next site was in St Mary's Street, which is when Jim Carrier became involved with the Cooks of Bedford.
Ron then wished to pursue his love for paintings, and set up an art gallery business in London. Jim purchased the business from Ron. The business was forced to move, due to the expansion of the local technical college car park, suitable premises were located in Midland Road, where a good retail area was available, together with new purpose built stores in 1962. Cooks remained in Midland Road for nearly 35 years, and now have moved to a 6000 sq ft premises on the Woburn Road Industrial Estate under management by James Carrier, Jim's son. We have been most fortunate to Draper Tools generosity in supplying a large quantity of display stands for our new trade counter, and most recently, in assisting with creating a large 1st floor power tool display area.
